Sustainability Research Institute - SRI - SRI ’ s purpose is to research and develop models for sustainable rural settlement that meet human, social and environmental needs, thereby meeting the sustainability challenge that increasingly faces our society. The Model SRI plans to establish its first model on the Far North Coast of NSW to meet needs clearly evident in this area such as: Management of population growth impacts. Sustainable economic development. Availability of affordable housing. Resolution of rural land use conflicts. ResearchResearch SRI is incorporated as a not-for-profit public company and is a registered charity. SRI has established a working relationship with the University of Western Sydney, The Science-Art Research Centre, Sustainable Futures of Australia and the Earth Repair Foundation.

MembershipMembership SRI is comprised of directors and members with a wide network of associated researchers and practitioners skilled in relevant fields.

IncomeIncome SRI will become financially self- sustaining predominantly by earning income from the provision of research, human development and educational services, sale of products and from royalties.

Assets The assets of SRI such as land, buildings and plant will be leased from the Natural Capital Protection Trust (NCPT), or secured for the work of the Institute. Donations to the NCPT are 100% tax deductible and repayment arrangements for loans to SRI or NCPT will be individually negotiated with those who support this ethical initiative.

Management All decisions pertaining to the conduct of projects and to the management of SRI will be made by consensus of those directly involved.

Previous Diagram Details Individuals or lending institutions will loan or donate funds to the Natural Capital Trust (NCPT) to buy the land and repayments will be negotiated to mutual agreement. A charter of care between SRI and the NCPT will ensure that all environmental impacts are monitored and the Natural Capital protected. A contractual agreement between the Project team and SRI will ensure that the team members fulfill the goals of SRI and that they ensure that regular lease payments are made. The Natural Capital ProtectionTrust Is a not-for-profit entity established as an environmental organization approved for registration by the Federal Minister for the Environment. It will act as the trustee of freehold land, enabling sustainable rural settlement and agricultural production, while ensuring conservation of our precious natural capital. Facilitates research, education and demonstration of optimal, sustainable land use and resource management. This will protect the integrity of natural ecosystems, enhance biodiversity, conserve resources and promote human health and wellbeing. The Project team will: Design, plan and make the decisions necessary for the development of the project including the implementation of their business plan. Monitor and evaluate its social and economic interactions and environmental impacts, in order to assess the project ’ s progress towards the goal of establishing a sustainable village model. Ensure that all land lease, operational and development costs are met. Undertake a contract to operate as an autonomous body within SRI. FINANCEFINANCE We welcome individuals ’ and groups ’ assistance with donations or loans required for SRI and the NCPT to achieve their goals, on terms agreeable to all parties. The repayment of loans for NCPT ’ s property purchases will be met through the land-lease contracts made between NCPT, SRI and its Project Team. SRI will become financially self-sustaining mainly by earning income from research and development projects, human development programs, educational services, sale of products and from royalties. When loans have been repaid, all assets will then be held in trust in perpetuity for the stated aims of SRI. We welcome individuals ’ and groups ’ assistance with donations or loans required for SRI and the NCPT to achieve their goals, on terms agreeable to all parties.
