TRUE – Every time Hitler demanded new territory he said it would end his demands. World War II started when Germany invaded Poland. Blitzkrieg meant “lightning war” and it included fast-moving airplanes and tanks followed by troops to take the enemy by surprise.

The Finnish people were able to try to defend their country thanks to the incredibly cold winter. “The Phony War” continued until Germany invaded Denmark and Norway.

The French troops escaped at Dunkirk because British ships (military and civilian) came and rescued them. Charles de Gaulle was a French General who encouraged the French to fight off the invaders from London. ◦ Organized the Free French military

Germany focused on bombing British cities to break British morale The radar and Enigma helped the British track Germany. After the Battle of Britain Hitler focused on Eastern Europe & the Mediterraean

Italy was focused on conquering Egypt and its oil fields. The German General sent to attack British in Africa was General Rommel (Desert Fox). German troops made Leningrad suffer because they surrounded the city and isolated it from the rest of the world

Moscow was saved because the harsh winter set it. Hitler could have learned from Napoleon’s mistakes. The Lend-Lease Act allowed the US to aid vital countries. After a German U-Boat attack the US was involved in an undeclared naval war.
