Warm Up List (use notes if needed) 3 animals that eat only plants and grass 3 animals that eat only meat 3 animals that eat both
2
Take out the sheet that we worked on last class Let’s go over our answers!
3
Let’s remind ourselves how the food chain works energy Energy returned to the environment energy
4
There is something similar to a food chain and it’s called……
5
Write on worksheetk. Food Webs: More complex than food chains. Ecosystems consist of many food chains linked together All organisms depend on one another for survival
6
Food Webs – Florida Everglades https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGODmyXkkPU Think about this when watching... How is a food web different from a food chain? What organisms did you recognize from the video? What new organisms did you learn about?
7
Food Webs – Florida Everglades Volunteers.... How is a food web different from a food chain? What organisms did you recognize from the video? What new organisms did you learn about?
8
Food Webs: Think about how things are connected by what they eat!
9
Remember the food chain? energy Energy returned to the environment energy
10
Let’s Look at the Role of decomposers They return nutrients to the environment Examples: Fungi on fallen logs Mold on bread Flies, maggots, and other insects of dead animals.

Decomposing Rabbit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6sFP_7Vezg
12
Do you think worms and insects are decomposers? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6V0a_7N1Mw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6sFP_7Vezg
13
Do we understand….. Decomposers connect the ends of the food chains They are nature’s recyclers They return nutrients to the soil and environment to be used again
14
Another type of decomposer: Bacteria in animal guts https://www.brainpop.com/science/diversityoflife/bac teria/ https://www.brainpop.com/science/diversityoflife/bac teria/ Stop video at 1:25
15
Cycles Who has heard of the water cycle? What is it? Today we will learn about the water, carbon, and nitrogen cycle.
16
Carbon Cycle Water, nitrogen, carbon dioxide, and oxygen are substances cycled between the living and non-living environments.
17
Time to be an investigator. On your sheet, there will be a number of statements that you will need to find the answers. First 3 people to get all the answers correct win candy.
18
Your investigation begins on pg D16-D20 Library quiet. You will read the 5 pages on your own and fill in the blanks on the sheet. When done quietly raise your hand. I will check. Start work on a Food Chain poster for bonus points on your next quiz if finished.
19
We will now create a food chain poster
20
Draw something like this on your poster… energy Energy returned to the environment energy
21
Review Green plants use the sun’s energy directly to make food. When animals eat green plants and other animals eat those animals, the energy moves from one living thing to another. Ultimately all the members of a food chain depend on the energy from the sun.
23
Food chains are important to all life on Earth. Within the chain, all organisms depend on one another to survive
