1 Bell Ringer 4/14 President Andrew Jackson used his influence to encourage Congress to pass the Indian Removal Act of What was the result of the Indian Removal Act? A Native American territory was created on the western coast of the United States. Many Native American tribes were forced to relocate to lands west of the Mississippi River. Native Americans received the same equal rights as white U.S. citizens had. Native American tribes began to work with the U.S. government instead of fighting it. In 1832, the United States Supreme Court ruled in Worcester v. Georgia that the state of Georgia had no right to force the Cherokee from their native lands. Why did this ruling have little positive effect? Georgia had no interest in Cherokee lands. President Jackson did not enforce the ruling. The Cherokee Nation chose to move to Canada. The Trail of Tears had already occurred. What was the Trail of Tears?
