Instructor Training Course Online & Practical workshop Taught by VCH SteadyFeet Master Trainers BCRPA approved &counts for 22 CE Credits for BCRPA Instructors Physios, OT’s and BCRPA Fitness Instructors to ensure high quality instruction. Partnership with Osteofit VCH Fall & Injury Prevention Program5

Participant Class SteadyFeet ® Class Taught by VCH Registered SteadyFeet ® Instructors Low ratio participants to instructor (5:1 for Level 1, 7:1 for Level 2) Pre and Post assessments Level 1 and 2 May use mobility aids Periodic audits by VCH Utilize trained volunteers VCH Fall & Injury Prevention Program6

Problem Poor strength and balance are leading contributors to falls ADPs had exercise classes in place but: –Not standardized from site to site –Instructors - varying knowledge backgrounds –Limited resources for training instructors –Some concerns about safety within classes –Questions about effectiveness of exercises 7

SteadyFeet ® Max participant to instructor ratio is 6:1 for Level 1 and 8:1 for Level 2 Classes: 60 mins Focus is on balance, gait and strength Must be able to walk independently; may use walking aids Instructor: BCRPA certified instructors Training: Online – 8 hours online Workshop – 14 hours Customized progressive lesson plans SteadyFeet ® ADP Max participant to instructor ratio is 20:1 Classes: 20 – 45 mins Focus is on strength and balance May use walking aids Instructor: Activity Workers Training: Online – 6 hours Workshop – 7 hours Rotate through a series of set lesson plans Intervention VCH Fall & Injury Prevention Program8

Challenges Adapt SteadyFeet® to meet the needs of the ADP setting: –Staff – level of training –Length and cost of training –Class size –Class frequency –Participant physical and medical status 9
