DC drive DCS550 The new family member
Current ratings Size F1 20 ADC ADC Size F2 135 ADC ADC Size F3 315 ADC ADC Size F4 610 ADC ADC Mains voltage 230 VAC VAC Power 12 kW kW 16 HP HP Main message: The drive is available from 20 A to 1000 A with identical boards for control (SDCS-CON-F). By this means the inventory of spares is minimized. Hardware of F1-F4 modules are proven with DCS800. The modules size DCS800 F1-F4 have basically the same physical size and the same amount of power as DCS800 F1-F4: 230 VAC VAC © ABB DC drives Slide 2

Field exciter terminals DCS Control Panel 3 Analog outputs 4 Analog inputs (16 bit) Tacho terminals Armature terminals Fieldbus or I/O-extension I/O-extension Encoder terminals 8 Digital inputs 4 Digital outputs 1 Digital output with relay Mains terminals Very compact dimensions - For tight spaces, best fit for replacements Integrated 3-phase field exciter up to 35 A No additional wiring needed I/O’s available in the standard module (including analog tacho and encoder) - Less options needed Main message: Field exciter terminals are of locked type and cannot slip out of the socket DCS Control Panel is the actual control panel: This DCS Control Panel is included in the scope of delivery The DCS Control Panel is the same as for DCS800 it is also used for ACS850, ACS550, ACQ550 and ACS350 Standard I/O (included on SDCS-CON-F): analog tacho, pulse encoder, 4 AI, 3 AO, 8 DI, 5 DO, 1 PTC Options have to be ordered together with the drive. Plus codes are not available The drive has two slots for plug-in options, thus only two option modules are possible Extension I/O: 1 * RAIO or 2 * RDIO In slot 1R-type fieldbus adapter is possible R-type (fieldbus modules): only usable in slot 1 CANopen (RCAN-01) ControlNet (RCNA-01) DeviceNet (RDNA-01) Ethernet/IP (RETA-01) Modbus RTU (RMBA-01) Modbus/TCP (RETA-01) Profibus (RPBA-01) ProfiNet (RETA-02) EtherCAT (RECA-01) 3 wires in, 4 wires out. The field exciter is integrated and connected in parallel to the armature converter. Thus using less hardware e.g.: autotransformer, breakers, line chokes, fuses and wiring Ordering is simpler (field exciter is in basic package and thus standard) A smooth field voltage due to 3-phase field exciter is good for the brushes. When connected in 3-phase no autotransformer is needed (e.g. incoming is 525 VAC and field voltage is 90 V). If the internal field exciter is not needed it is possible to switch it completely off (no function anymore) via parameter © ABB DC drives Slide 3

DCS Control Panel (same as DCS800) Help function Multilingual display Startup Assistant Adaptive Program (AP) Plain text for faults and alarms Copy and compare function for parameters Real time clock Simple and easy to use The DCS550 can be fully controlled by means of the DCS Control Panel Main message: DCS Control Panel is the actual control panel: This DCS Control Panel is included in the scope of delivery The DCS Control Panel is the same as for DCS800 it is also used for ACS850, ACS550, ACQ550 and ACS350 The door mounting kits come including cable It is very compact The display is divided into 3 areas: Top line is variable depending of operation (e.g. local or remote) Middle area is variable and shows in general signals, parameters menus and lists Bottom line shows the function of the 2 soft keys and the time Soft key 1 with variable function, defined by the text in the bottom left corner of the display Soft key 2 with variable function, defined by the text in the bottom right corner of the display The help key displays context sensitive help information LOC/REM key changes between local and remote mode UP/DOWN keys scrolls through list, increases/decreases the speed reference and are used to set parameter values START/STOP keys start and stop the drive in local mode The DCS Control Panel is multilingual (English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, …) The DCS Control Panel can be used to execute the basic Startup Assistants, Adaptive Program (AP) Displays fault logger in plain text Displays fault- and alarm messages in plain text Parameter sets can be saved in the DCS Control Panel and copied to other drives The actual parameter set of the DCS is compared with the default parameter set and the differences are shown in the DCS Control Panel Can be used for controlling the drive, measuring values (reference and actual signals are displayed in engineering values which means that the values are displayed e.g. in volts or amps), setting parameters. It is very easy to copy parameters from one drive to another. © ABB DC drives Slide 6

DC drive DCS550 Flexible Programmability Adaptive Program (AP)
16 function blocks Extensive library (AND, OR, ADD, filter, …) Visualization tool for graphical display Easy documentation Programming is also possible via DCS Control Panel Additional PID controller, e.g. for tension control, pressure control or other process variables Adjustment of the drive to the application without the use of PLC’s Main message: Adaptive Program (AP) is implemented in the firmware and ready to go in every DCS550 With the available function blocks it is possible to adapt the DCS550 firmware to the needs of most applications The Adaptive Programs can be written by simply changing parameters. This is possible with the DCS control panel, DriveWindow Light or DWL AP. DWL AP is a tool to visualize, create, document, edit and download Adaptive Programs DWL AP is integrated into DriveWindow Light and comes free of charge with every drive © ABB DC drives Slide 7
