2 Background & Initiatives
In 2001, BUET has installed VSAT and Fiber Optic Backbone Network To best utilize the Backbone Network, a committee was formed in June 2003 1st Initiative BUET Syndicate has approved a proposal for the implementation of the BUET Central Database System on After more than 1 year, only Salary Management System was developed using two programmers 2nd Initiative BUET Syndicate has revised the previous proposal and decided to implement the BUET Institutional Information System (BIIS) in Oct 2006 Most of the works has been done in about 6 years 3rd Initiative ? It is necessary to take the next initiative to enhance BIIS

Registrar Office (Academic) Online Admission Process (Undergraduate and Postgraduate) Online Registration (Undergraduate and Postgraduate) Viewing the Status of Requested Courses by Student at any time Viewing Information Related to Dues and Fees by Student Students’ Performance Monitoring System for the Advisers, Heads, and Honorable Vice-Chancellor Registration Monitoring System for the Advisers, Heads, Registrar, and Honorable Vice-Chancellor Scholarship Management Interaction with Controller of Examinations Office, etc.

Registrar Office (Establishment) Basic Information of Teachers, Officers and Employees Up-to-date Information of all Posts in BUET Organogram Appointment of Officials including Deans, Heads, Directors, Provosts Preparation and Maintenance of Seniority List of Teachers Tracking Faculty Members and Officers who are on Leave (HS, Subb.)

Controller of Examinations Office Appointment of Examiners, Scrutinizers, Grade-sheet Preparers, etc Online Grade Submission Grade Submission Monitoring System for Heads, Controller of Examinations and Honorable Vice-Chancellor Course-wise Students’ Performance Monitoring System for Controller of Examinations and Honorable Vice-Chancellor Processing of Examination Results, and Online Award of Degrees Online Tabulation Processing Examination Seat Plan, Seat Chart, etc Preparation Room wise Absentee Sheet, Attendance Sheet, Top Sheet, Top Sheet Enclosure Preparation Payment of Examination Bill for Teachers Grade-sheet, Tabulation Sheet, Transcripts, Provisional Certificate, Original Certificate Preparation Merit list, Dean’s list and Qualifying List Preparation

8 Main Features of BIIS It is role-based application software
An user must login using UserID and Password An user can access an action for which his role is authorized The data for anything are entered only once The name, designation and other information of an employee are entered only once by an input module, and the other modules can view the information Marks/ grades are entered by grade-sheet preparer only, others can view the marks/ grades Course No, Course Title, etc. are entered by a module. Students can only select courses for registration It is web-based application software The back-end database is in Oracle 11g The front-end is developed by JSP and JavaScript
