2. The Reading Scheme has been created to help you improve in English. Your spelling, grammar, syntax and vocabulary will improve when you start reading a great deal.

3. Reading Scheme You will be given 1 lesson a week to do reading. You will be expected to read for about 20 minutes every night at home.

4. The Success Chart When you have finished reading a text, write it up on your individual summary sheet which you should keep in your reading folder. Then let your teacher know. They will then put a stamp next to your name on the SUCCESS CHART.

5. This lets EVERYONE – teachers, your friends, the rector, visitors, parents – see at a glance who is reading.* After achieving your stamp on the SUCCESS CHART, move on to the AWARDS * WARNING: those not reading enough will be put on a target sheet!

6. Reading Scheme Awards There are three types of awards: GOLD – 15 Stars SILVER – 10 Stars BRONZE – 5 Stars Judging for these awards will take place before the Easter Holidays

7. Points mean Prizes! Each Activity is given a STAR RATING. YOU choose which Activity you would like to do. When you complete the Activity, place it inside your reading folder and before Easter your teacher will count up all the STARS in your activities and give you an AWARD. E.G. 1 book report = 2 stars 1 comic strip = 1 star 1 character study = 2 stars TOTAL = 5 STAR = BRONZE AWARD

8. Star ratingActivityWhat it involves Comic Strip Fill in the Activity sheet with the plot of the text in comic strip form. Use stick men or exploit your drawing skills! Book Cover Create a new cover for a text with new pictures, colours and ‘blurb’. Use the help sheet for guidance. Book Report Fill in the details on the Book Report Form available from your teacher. Give as much detail as possible! Character Study Fill in the Character study sheet available from your teacher. Again, detail is important! Theme Study Write an essay of about 500 words using the help sheet available from your teacher. Remember to use quotes! Creation of Atmosphere And Mood Write an essay of about 500 words using the help sheet available from your teacher. Presentation is important here! ACTIVTYMENUACTIVTYMENU

9. Choose your book Read it. Tell the teacher when you’ve finished it List it on your summary sheet Get a stamp on the Success Chart Do an Activity from the Menu Place the finished activity in your reading folder

10. 10 Awards Presentation! * All of your reading folders will be collected before the Easter Holidays. * Your teacher will decide which award you are to be given. * There will be a presentation ceremony in the Assembly Hall on your return to school.
