Giving excellent services to our clients Introduction to CHAST CHAST aims to inculcate good hygiene practises among children The CHAST approach and process is based on the PHAST approach CHAST is also based on the child-to-child approach

Giving excellent services to our clients Why should we train children on hygiene and sanitation? A child’s mind is receptive and therefore they are able to absorb whatever they are told. They adapt easily to new situations. They are able to remember easily what they have been told. They are curious and are always eager to learn new things.

They easily emulate/copy what they see adults doing They are scared of making mistakes and always try to do what is right They easily influence each other and do not wish to be left out on what other children are doing They are change agents in the communities They are tomorrow’s leaders

Giving excellent services to our clients Facilitation of CHAST The facilitator’s role is a coordinating and moderating one, focused on helping children to discuss their hygiene practices and to participate in memorable exercises and discussions on good hygiene. Each session should ideally be limited to 30 children or less, If there is a larger group of about 40 then it should be divided into two along age lines. 21
