The role of PEPFAR/NEPI in strengthening the health workforce in Malawi Improve the quantity and quality, and relevance of nurses and midwives to address HIV epidemic and other health threats. Identify, evaluate, and disseminate innovative models and practices that are generalizable for national scale-up of nursing and midwifery education. Build local and regional partnerships to transform environment of practice for nursing/midwifery and for sustainability of the achievements.

Achievements of NEPI in Malawi and other implementing countries Increased number of nurses/midwives competent in delivery of high quality services for HIV. Built capacity of nursing schools by enhancing faculty skills, curricula, and experiences for students. Strengthened nursing and midwifery institutions. Advanced role of nurses/midwives. Enhanced partnerships with national, regional and global nursing/midwifery programs and other networks.
