What is AOTI MHAG? One of the 13 advisory groups of AOTI. A resource for council and on their behalf national bodies and government departments on mental health issues. We provide CPD opportunities for members. We promote advances in mental health occupational therapy.

AOTI MHAG We provide networking opportunities in person / email. We communicate to members of national developments, policies and CPD opportunities. We represent our professional body AOTI and its members in development of new policy and national mental health service developments.

How we work We work on a voluntary basis and teleconferences - lunchtime to allow committee to participate. Teleconferences-average 6 weekly –feedback on national representation, new projects worked on. Face to face meetings at study days. Regular emails from secretary to members of courses, national documents, latest mental health developments, members queries. We plan study days based on members feedback and requests. We develop details of proposals and costs with Cpd officers to support MHAG members ideas applications for HSE via AOTI course funding.

2014 Actions 2 Study days 2014. Represented AOTI on National working groups and policy development. Clinical governance issues, recruitment and resources issues raised with national mental health office. Assistance with NRS- job specification and recruitment of new posts for Occupational therapist managers in Louth /Meath and Wexford/ Waterford and Camhs Linn Dara.

Representations-Working groups National mental health division liaison. Mental health reform- Thank you Aine O ‘Reilly Mental health act.Thanks also to Lisa Corrigan on national expert group. Advancing recovery Ireland initiative- Thank you Bridget Harney. WFOT Mhag – Thank you Niall Turner.

Study days 2014 On 21st March, theme was’ Evidence base approaches within mental health practice ‘ Presentations of recent research in Occupational therapy and how to conduct research in mental health practice – Dr Clodagh Nolan. On 7th November the theme was–‘What works?- Mental Health Practice across Ireland’. Presentations were in moves to independent living, Occupational spaces in nursing homes, Youth mental health and First episode psychosis projects. There was a presentation from Anne O’ Connor, national director on the mental health division. We had our first ‘ted’ talking point. We had Networking on clinical issues in specialist group and Cpd needs ideas generation.

Cpd proposals from Mhag- HSE /AOTI courses 2014 - Lifestyle redesign courses – Thanks to Leonie Boland and Aine O Reilly for work on submission. -Sensory integration and mental health- Thanks to Ciara Dawson and Sherrie Buckley for their work. 2015 -Adapted lifestyle redesign training and current liaison re possible funding re SI and mental health and possible other training.

MHAG Committee 2014-15 Thank you to for all the work including teleconferences,submissions,representing Occupational therapy on national working groups and planning today. Thank you to Ciara Dawson who has stepped down as on leave and did lots of work on Cpd proposal and study days for all her work/representation on your behalf.

2015 goals CPD opportunities for members. Respond to new needs of members Approved centres guidelines with National HSE managers group Clinical programmes – Involvement in development of care pathways,OT evidence based and roles with service users. Promote advancement of best practice mental health occupational therapy in all regions. Refer matters to HSE mental health office/managers group/Impact OT vocational group
