GLAST LAT Project Managers F2F 041305 4.1.9 - Integration and Test 23 Process for Investigating Data Analysis Issues 1.An issue is presented in the Friday’s Instrument Analysis meeting 2.SVAC ensures its traceability by documenting it in JIRA 3.SVAC follows up with subsystems/Collaboration to develop a list of potential root causes: –Insufficient knowledge/documentation of data analysis files –Could be just a calibration issue or lack of understanding of how data analysis variables are being filled –Software “Bugs” in three areas –in the data analysis software –in the online/offline software –in the reconstruction software –Insufficient knowledge/documentation of instrument operational settings –Could be just a feature given the current operational settings –Insufficient knowledge/documentation of instrument performance –Could be a not well understood/exercised capability of the instrument prior to the existence of integrated towers –Could be an environmental effect or “noise” external to the LAT, inherent ot the experimental set-up –Idiosyncrasies of ground cosmic ray spectrum 4.After step 3 is done, we can propose a special test to gather more data (if necessary) 5.Finally when we believe an issue points to a flight hardware problem, we 1.Present summaries in IA (Eduardo) or ANA (Steve) meetings, whichever happens first –Bring it to the attention of all relevant subsystems and recommend strategy to solve the problem 2.Document the issue with System Engineering and I&T for disposition
24
GLAST LAT Project Managers F2F 041305 4.1.9 - Integration and Test 24 Current Issues under investigation CAL_HI and CAL_LO fired without any crystal hits CAL_HI trigger fired without high energy deposition Discrepancy between TKR multiplicities between DATA and MC in electronics space There is consistently 10-15% more triggers seen during the 5 and 10kHz runs than expected as measured by the exponential fit to the delta event time register of the GEM. TKR only triggers are around 85% (TBR) of the time when the muon telescope triggers Discrepancy between Data and MC for TKR dead channel list Discrepancy calculated and measured event size There seems to be a high incidence of reasonable looking events with both CAL low and CAL high without a TKR trigger. These events generally had plenty of hits in the tracker Discrepancy between GEM and TriggerAlg for trigger types Discrepancy in trigger rates for 1,5,10 and 20 KHz runs, underestimated for low rates and overestimated for high rates at a few % level
