ACADEMIC QUALITY & STANDARDS TEAM What do we do? Mission: As part of LTS, to work in partnership with faculties, schools and other central services to secure the University’s reputation for excellence in learning & teaching.

ACADEMIC QUALITY & STANDARDS TEAM What do we do? AQST roles and activities: Support the development of policy and procedures in line with the implementation of the University’s Learning and Teaching Strategy Maintain effective and efficient quality assurance arrangements at all levels

Identify opportunities for the enhancement of learning and teaching and the student academic experience through effective and efficient review processes, including the use of appropriate management information Support staff at all levels on learning and teaching issues

ACADEMIC QUALITY & STANDARDS TEAM What’s new for 2009? 1.Regulatory matters –introduction of: MBiol,BSc; MDes,BDes; GradCert; –Rules for Award for Integrated Masters and Graduate Certificate programmes of study; –clarification of the rules on temporary withdrawal from study and intercalations (re: student loan status); –changes to General Regulations (Academic Dress)

ACADEMIC QUALITY & STANDARDS TEAM What’s new for 2009? 2.Student Academic Experience Reviews –provision for two external representatives and for reviews to be chaired by a Pro-Dean from another faculty (by agreement); –specific reference in the report to the University’s strategic priorities for learning and teaching: specifically, research-led teaching and Leeds for Life; –confirmation in the report of the currency of programmes of study and re-approval of the programme specifications; –reports to be forwarded to LTB and GB.

ACADEMIC QUALITY & STANDARDS TEAM What’s new for 2009? 4.School Codes of Practice on Assessment and Statements on Personal Tutoring –revised template for School Code of Practice on Assessment (new information to be provided); –development of a more comprehensive template to include agreed text where flexibility is inappropriate; –closer FLTC scrutiny of statements on personal tutoring

ACADEMIC QUALITY & STANDARDS TEAM What was new for 2008 External examiners’ procedures –The external examiner should endorse any August papers, either at the same time as approving the assessment for the main examinations or as a separate exercise where papers are only set as required; –The external examiner should endorse the marks following August examinations, this might be done either through confirming the marks following remote consideration or attendance at the Examination Board in late August/September.
