1 Agenda Discussion Questions Passing back papers
No Vocabulary Test until next Friday over Unit 5 Homework: Finish Ad Analysis & Read Chapters Please return final essays for portfolio.

2 Discussion Why is Edna fascinated with Mariequita? What might the Spanish girl represent to her? As she sails across the bay with Robert and Mariequita to the Cheniere Caminada, Edna feels “as if she were being borne away from some anchorage which had held her fast, whose chains had been loosening – had snapped the night before when the mystic spirit was abroad, leaving her free to drift whithersoever she chose to set her sails.” What theme is evident in Chopin’s diction? How does Edna spend her last days at the Grade Isle?

3 Discussion When Edna returns to New Orleans, how would you say the house contributes to Mr. Pontellier’s attitude towards his wife? In what way does Edna behave like a child after Leo admonishes her for neglecting societal conventions? Why might Chopin have chosen to characterize her this way? After visiting Madame Ratignolle and observing her comfortable marriage, Edna pities Adele’s “colorless existence.” Is Edna’s opinion justified? Why or why not? How was Edna’s view toward her artistic ability changed since her dabbling at the Grande Isle? What might be the reason for this change?

What is the intended effect of the advertisement on the consumer? Is the company justified in portraying its product in this fashion? Why or why not?
