Highlights as of 14 January, 2014 Total Reported Cases = 21,296 [HCW: 825] Total Reported Deaths = 8,429 [HCW: 493] Overall CFR= ~40% [~60%] Phase-3 trials of two candidate Ebola vaccines are set to begin at the end of January and early February in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea It will take about six months for results from the phase-3 trials to be known The production of vaccines will go on while the trials are underway Huge stock of millions of doses of vaccine available by mid-year Highest number of cases in 45+ age group (slide # 5)slide # 5 Compared with children (people aged 14 years and under), people aged 15 to 44 are three times more likely to be affected (35 reported cases per 100,000 population, compared with 101 per 100,000 population) People aged 45 and over (130 reported cases per 100,000 population) are almost 4 times more likely to be affected than are children Case incidence Low in Guinea In the previous week, reported its lowest weekly total of new confirmed cases since the week ending 17 August 2014 Overall Proportion: 26 reported cases per 100,000 population Low in Liberia Case numbers remain low, with no confirmed cases nationally for the final 2 days of the week ending 11 January, and the lowest weekly total of confirmed cases since the first week of June 2014 Overall Proportion: 210 cases per 100,000 population Decreasing in Sierra Leone Decline in case incidence for the second week running, and recorded its lowest weekly total of new confirmed cases since the week ending 31 August 2014 Overall Proportion: 176 cases per 100,000 population Source: WHO/CDC/SOS International/ProMed

These are not infections that have occurred between the two most recent reporting periods.
