What is blood types? What is blood types? A blood type is a classification of blood based on the presence or absence of inherited antigenic substances on the surface of red blood cells. These antigens may be proteins, carbohydrates, glycoproteins, or glycolipids, depending on the blood group system.

Blood transfusion Blood transfusion is generally the process of receiving blood products into one’s circulation intravenously. Transfusions are used for various medical conditions to replace lost components of the blood.

Donors and receivers In the diagram on the side, it shows you what blood types can be received with your specific blood type. It also shows you what blood types you can’t be given.

Universal Donor Type O negative blood is considered the universal blood donor type. This means that anyone regardless of blood type could receive type O negative blood without risking a transfusion reaction

Universal receiver A universal recipient is a person with the AB blood type. They can receive blood or organs from any other blood type.
