2
Purpose Purdue ALERT Beacon & Desktop Popup Alert (Purdue ALERT notification layers) are activated due to a safety threat on campus.
3
Beacon Operation The beacon will: Be activated when an incident occurs on or near the Purdue WL campus that may impact one’s safety. Alarm for 10 seconds (cannot be muted) Flash for approximately 5 minutes Provide incident information (Info available for 5 minutes before it resets)
4
Desktop Popup Alert Operation The Popup Alert will: Be activated when an incident occurs on or near the Purdue WL campus that may impact one’s safety. “Take over” a Purdue logged in computer and display an alert message (most classroom & some lab computers). By clicking the “enter” key, one can acknowledge receipt (PC) or dismiss (MAC) and return to the normal screen.
5
Actions Immediately evaluate your situational awareness. What is occurring on campus? Am I in the threat area? What actions should I take for my safety or those I’m responsible for? Do I need to notify others of the incident? Class, co-workers, others?
6
Actions (cont.) Implement actions based on the incident. Considerations: Continue seeking additional information. Avoid the incident area. If you “see something, say somethi ng.” Call 911 for all emergencies. Suspend class where appropriate or cancel class (based on incident’s location and type). Consider the following actions based on situational awareness: Get out (evacuate). Hide in a safe, securable area (shelter)…lock or secure your doors, if possible. Take action (fight back)…only as an absolute last resort.
7
Fire Alarm Evacuation If a fire alarm is activated, immediately: Suspend class. Evacuate the building. Proceed outdoors, and away from the building. Do not use the elevator
