Makes laws for our nation
Decides how tax money will be spent
Consists of two “houses” – also called Congress
House of Representatives
# of representatives is based on each state’s population
435 total members
Reps. must be 25 years old and live in the district they represent
One “term” lasts two years
Can serve as many terms as they are elected to

2. The Legislative Branch
The Senate
2 Senators for every state
100 total members
Senators must be 30 years old and live in the state they represent
One term lasts 6 years
Can serve as many terms as they are elected to

3. The Executive Branch
Enforces our nation’s laws by starting programs/services and ordering money to be spent
Can propose and veto laws
President is the Commander-in-Chief of the military
Consists of President, Vice President, and the President’s Cabinet
President can only serve two 4 year terms

4. The Executive Branch Requirements to be President Must be 35 years old
Must be a natural born citizen of the US
Must live in US for 14 years

5. The Judicial Branch
“Judge” our nation’s laws to see if they are Constitutional
Consists of our nation’s court system
The Supreme Court
Supreme law of the land
9 judges – appointed by the President
Serve for life or until they resign or are removed
