Go to university home page – www.gre.ac.uk – and click on ‘student portal’ www.gre.ac.uk

Use your university network username and password to login, in or outside the university

Go to the Library & Computing tab on the portal Click on Databases & Journals or (via Athens DA) then

Click on either of these to get to the Athens DA login

Use your same university username and password to login to Athens DA

Go to the MyAthens page to access the databases

Click on Resources to see list of databases available

Select LexisNexis Butterworths from the alphabetical list

Select the News tab to get to the newspaper search screen

Select which type of newspapers you want to search (UK newspapers include regional ones)

You can tick boxes to select individual titles

You can select a date range from drop- down menu

Enter search terms in boxes (click on more to get more boxes). Can select restrictors from pull-down menu)

Can choose different ways of combining or searching for keywords Click on Search

Results display most recent first. Can change display to give more detail

This shows an expanded display, with keywords in context

You can choose to display from one newspaper from those listed

Full text displays with keywords highlighted. Can print or save from here, or if more articles wanted, select from one of the lists (select from menu)

Tick boxes to select articles, then click on icon for saving, printing or emailing

Select which format, and other options you want, then download DOWNLOADING

EMAILING Select options – send as attachment, format etc, type in email address. Can add a note if sending to someone else, then Send

PRINTING Select options for printing – font, full text with indexing terms etc, then Print

You can create an alert to repeat a search at regular intervals and email you with updates

Tick boxes for index terms from each category

You can hide index boxes if not needed Select any dates, which newspapers etc as before

Results from just using index terms

When you have finished your session, click on Sign-Out

You then have the choice to log out of Athens, or go to the list of services to search other databases
