CHEMISTRY LESSON INSTRUCTIONS What you should be focusing on for today: 1.Fully Develop your lesson plans. 2.Write a learning goal for your topic. 3.Write a Check for Understanding for your topic. 4.Organize how you will teach your lesson. 5.Get all documents, PPT’s, videos and lab equipment ready. (this is to minimize transition since you will not have time to set up.) 6.Write a DETAILED SCRIPT for your topic. 7.PRACTICE. 8.Research and Study your topic.

GROUP 1 Your assignment is to explain the fascinating world of atoms, molecules and compounds!! You should come up with a catchy title for your mini-lesson. You should review key parts and atomic structure, explain the difference between atoms, molecules and compounds, give examples, and review/discuss the periodic table. You may create a power point You may create drawn visuals or use the whiteboard to write notes. GROUP 2 Your assignment is to explain how to decipher chemical formulas You should come up with a catchy title for your mini-lesson. IMPORTANT!!!! Explain to the class HOW to read a chemical formula. Explain what the coefficient is. Explain what the subscript is. Have the students PRACTICE in order for you to CHECK FOR UNDERSTANDING. It is vital that the students can read and decipher a chemical formula. You may create a power point (email it to me before you present) You may create drawn visuals or use the whiteboard to write notes.

GROUP 3 Your assignment is to explain to your classmates how to write and decipher a chemical equation You should come up with a catchy title for your mini-lesson. IMPORTANT!!!! Explain to the class HOW to write a chemical equation. Use arrows and plus signs. Explain what the REACTANTS and PRODUCTS are. It is vital that the students can read and understand basic chemical equations. You may create a power point You may create drawn visuals or use the whiteboard to write notes. You could create a skit! GROUP 4 Your assignment is to explain the states of matter and how these are shown in a chemical equation. You should come up with a catchy title for your mini-lesson. Make sure you cover the 4 states of matter that are relevant in chemical reactions. Make sure you show how these states are indicated in a chemical equation. (hint….search “states of matter in chemical equations”) You may create a power point You may create drawn visuals or use the whiteboard to write notes.

GROUP 5 Your assignment is to explain the amazing “Law of Conservation of Matter” You should come up with a catchy title for your mini-lesson. Make sure you explain this important concept in “normal person” terminology! Use examples from everyday life. You may create a power point You may create drawn visuals; you can make up a rap or song, or use the whiteboard to write notes. GROUP 6 Your assignment is to explain how to balance a chemical reaction. You should come up with a catchy title for your mini-lesson. Make sure you cover the rules for balancing a chemical equation. Relate this to the Law of Conservation of Matter. Since I like group 6 BEST, I’m helping you by giving you this cool link to check out : http://misterguch.brinkster.net/eqnbalance.html http://misterguch.brinkster.net/eqnbalance.html You may create a power point or work document You may create drawn visuals or use the whiteboard to write notes.

GROUP 7 Your assignment is to explain REVERSIBLE REACTIONS You should come up with a catchy title for your mini-lesson. Make sure you explain this important concept in “normal person” terminology! Use examples from everyday life. You may create a power point Look around for a cool video to include! I’ll be doing a demo of a reversible reaction following your presentation.
