Coaching: Much less directive. Deep conversation opens up reflection and learning. Multiple ‘tool kits’ used, including psychometric assessment. Responsibility for learning firmly with the coachee. Premised on a trusted and confidential relationship of equals. Can be intellectual, emotional and spiritual. 1. The difference between coaching and mentoring Mentoring: Very often focussed on the career or management needs of a less experienced partner or protégé. Where appropriate, helping by being an additional set of ‘eyes-and-ears’ on the ground. Providing advice when requested.
