Main Points Overview Little Room Modules Light Box Module Current Schedule / Work in Progress

Brief Overview United Cerebral Palsy Association “The purpose of the “Little Room” is to facilitate the blind / deaf child’s achievement of spatial relations and reaching behavior, but it can be of considerable help for sighted low-functioning children” –UCPA of HAWAII Little Room Light Box Floor Keyboard Speakers/Resonance Board

Overall Design Light Box, Acoustic Interface, Motion Stimulus utilizing a motor. Most components will be controlled by a central microprocessor (PIC). –Light box: color and intensity –Floor keyboard: volume –Resonance board: vibrating motor/buzzer

Little Room Modules Acoustic Module 2-speaker (1 -low and 1-mid/high frequency output). Floor Keyboard Wire directly into Acoustic module and bypass internal speaker. Motion Stimulus Module Buzzer / motor may be used for resonance board for floor stimulus.

Light Box Module The light box will be positioned atop the ceiling of the Little Room. Its main function will be to reinforce the child’s interaction with his or her environment as well as to test the child’s sight. The response of the light box will correspond to various sensors / switches located in spaced regions inside the Little Room.

Light Box – Physical Parameters –Approximately 1.5’x 1’ (Little Room is 2’ x 3’) –Plastic case (contoured for our requirements) –Translucent Screen adapted for light dispersion –RGB and ultra bright white LEDs –Textured switches to reinforce child’s cognitive interaction with light box.

Light Box - Circuit Design LED’s in a matrix layout (N x M) composed of mainly RGB LED’s with centrally spaced Ultra Bright white LED’s. LED’s connected in Series by row and connected to PIC to control output (color, intensity). Use of Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) to control light intensity of LED’s.
