1 Accountability Measures 2009 (based on 2007-8 data) Report for Central Piedmont Community College

2 Mandate for Accountability Senate Bill1366, Section 10.5 –The General Assembly finds that the current annual program review standards are not adequate to ensure that programs are meeting the needs of students, employers, and the general public; therefore, the State Board of Community Colleges shall review the current standard to ensure a higher degree of program accountability and shall establish appropriate levels of performance for each measure based on sound methodological practices.

Progress of Basic Skills Students Benchmark: 75% of Basic Skills students will progress within the level, complete the level or advance to the next level. –Of the 13,289 CPCC basic skills students, 79% progressed, completed or advanced (an increase from 68% in 2006-07) –CPCC met the benchmark (was not met for 2006-07)

4 1. Progress of Basic Skills Students –The aggregate passing rate for students enrolled across the state in basic skills courses was 82% who progressed within the level, completed the level or advanced to the next level. –Of the 58 colleges, 56 met the standard.

5 2. Passing Rates for State Licensure Exams Benchmark: An aggregate institutional passing rate of 80% for all first-time test- takers plus no passing rate falling below 70% for any single exam.

7 2. Passing Rates for State Licensure Exams –CPCC met the benchmark. –Colleges who met the aggregate institutional pass rate of 80% did so with an average of 86% of students across the state succeeding on their first try. –Of the 58 colleges, 45 met the standard.

Performance of College Transfer Students Benchmark: 83% of the combined community college cohort will be in good academic standing (GPA of 2.0 or greater). –92% of 183 CPCC associate degree transfer students were in good academic standing. (increase from 87% in 2006-07) –87% of 292 with 24+ hours were in good academic standing. (increase from 76% in 2006-07) –.

9 3. Performance of College Transfer Students –Of the combined cohort of 475 transfer students, 90% were in good academic standing. (increase from 81% in 2006-07) –CPCC met the benchmark (was not met last year) Of community college graduates who transferred to a UNC institution within a year, 91% had a GPA equal to or greater than 2.0.

10 –When system-wide data were combined, an average of 88% of transfer students had a GPA of 2.0 or greater. –Of the native rising sophomores and juniors at the UNC schools, 87% were in good academic standing. –Of the 58 colleges, 44 met the standard. 3. Performance of College Transfer Students Of those earning 24 hours or more and transferring to a UNC institution, 86% had a GPA equal to or greater than 2.0.

11 4. Passing Rates of Students in Developmental Courses Benchmark: 75% passing rate for all developmental courses (grades A-C). –For the 2007-2008 academic year, 76% of the College’s 8,874 developmental course completers received a grade of A, B or C. (no change from 2006-07)

13 4. Passing Rates of Students in Developmental Courses –CPCC met the benchmark. –Of students enrolled in developmental courses across the state, 77% had a grade of C or better. –Of the 58 colleges, 49 met the standard.

Developmental Student Success in Subsequent College Level Courses Benchmark: 80% of students who took developmental courses will pass the “gatekeeper” English and/or mathematics course for which the developmental course serves as prerequisite (grade of D or better). –For the 2007-08 academic year, 91% of 4,626 developmental students passed the “gatekeeper” course.

16 5. Developmental Student Success in Subsequent College Level Courses –CPCC met the benchmark. –Of students who completed developmental courses across the system, 89% had a grade of D or better in subsequent college-level courses. –Of the 58 colleges, 57 met the standard.

Student Satisfaction of Completers & Non-completers Benchmark: 90% of the combined respondents (completers and non-completers) will report being satisfied with the quality of the college's programs and services. –Of the 932 completers and non- completers surveyed, 98% were satisfied with the quality of CPCC programs and services (97% of non- completers and 98% of completers)

18 6. Student Satisfaction of Completers & Non-completers –CPCC met the benchmark. –Of survey respondents system-wide, a combined average of 96% of completers and non-completers reported they were satisfied. –Of the 58 colleges, 56 met the standard.

19 7. Curriculum Student Progress Benchmark: 65% of students from a given fall term will persist (graduate or be retained). –Of the 14,597 program declared students in Fall 2007, 66% graduated, returned or transferred in Fall 2008. –CPCC met the benchmark.

20 7. Curriculum Student Progress –Of the Fall 2007 system-wide cohort, 69% had graduated, returned to enroll or transferred by Fall 2008. –Of the 58 colleges, 57 met the standard.

21 8. Business and Industry Satisfaction Benchmark: 90% of respondents will rate services provided as “very good” or “excellent.” –Of the 607 survey respondents from CPCC’s region, 93% were satisfied with services provided (increase from 91% of 357 respondents in 2007-08). –CPCC met the benchmark.

22 8. Business and Industry Satisfaction –Of all surveys completed system-wide, 94% indicated that the customized training they received was excellent or very good. – Of the 58 colleges, 53 met the standard.
