Objectives of the Course Following this course, the students should: understand what is a database, from the conceptual, mathematical and practical point of view; become able to develop the conceptual and logical design of a relational database, including both the structure and the operations; understand how the database systems work, also for managing concurrent operations, and how these systems can be accessed via web.

Syllabus Database Design –Basic notions and notation. –The relational model. –Query languages: formalisms and methods. –Database Design: from conceptual to implementation level. –Database systems implementation: basics. –Database and the web: basics.
