4 Society and Culture City and Countryside cities are direct products of colonial rule cities in African resemble cities elsewhere ¾ of Africans live outside the cities most live in thatched dwellings with no indoor plumbing/no electricity Women’s Roles Women allowed to vote and run for political office Most women work in low-paid positions farm laborers, factory workers, servants arranged marriages still prevail in some areas
