PRESENT CONTINUOUS To be + verb in –ing The auxiliary is the verb to be Spelling General rule = add – ing. Walk-walking, read-reading Verbs that end with e = eliminate e and add ing. Take-taking Verbs that end with ie = eliminate ie and add ying. Lie-lying Verbs that end with one vowel + consonant (b,d,g,l,m,n,p,r,t)= double the consonant and add –ing.
