9 Cal ISI Institute for Quantitative Biomedical Research (QB3) Partnership among UC San Francisco (medical sciences), UC Berkeley (engineering and physical sciences), and UC Santa Cruz (bioinformatics, mathematical sciences) Will host three interrelated programs- Bioengineering and Biotechnology; Bioinformatics; and Structural and Chemical Biology Develop new technologies and new areas of research based upon the application of the physical, chemical, mathematical and engineering sciences to biomedical research Will enable the University of California and California industry to remain in the forefront of research in the 21 st century Major new research facilities will be built on the three campuses by 2005
