Software Design & Development Contests

Friendlies & Tournament The friendlies and tournament will consist of two parts: –Regular team competition (3 hours, 3 problems) –Mixed team competition (3 hours, 3 problems) Each team made up of two “cells” –Design Cell: responsible for developing a UML-Like design for a given problem. Pair-design will be emphasized. –Development Cell: responsible for developing the software. Pair-programming will be emphasized. Acceptable programming languages used: C++ or Java

Evaluation of Team Competition Teams evaluated on team cumulative improvement (handicap). Goal: BEAT YOUR HANDICAP! Performance for both mixed and non-mixed competitions will be included. Evaluation will be focused on three aspects: –Design and Development continuity –Design accuracy and comprehension –Development completeness and performance

Competition Details Each Cell will have a laptop Designs and Applications will be submitted through PC 2 system Programming Languages: Java, C++ Competition Platform: LINUX Development Editors: JGrasp, Eclipse, NetBeans, Enhanced Notepad Design Editors: ??? Suggestions??? –Dia Diagrams, NetBeans

WEBSITE Volunteers for creation and managing website. Things on website: –Schedule –Registration –Coaches’ Blog –Participants’ Blog –Problem Archive –Team Results –Corporate Sponsors Webpage –Photos

Coaches Coaches should meet with their teams weekly We will have a weekly coaches’ meetings. (Hopefully online using Skype or something equivalent) Recruitment of participants

Building a Community We hope to build a design development community. Sharing of techniques, and experiences are necessary.
