4 They are involved with the design of consumer electronics, manufacturing processes, computer equipment, power generation, process control equipment communications devices and information technology services (IT) Computer engineers can be plant engineers in industrial situations, power engineers, controls engineers in industrial environments, and help support processes. Computer engineers also work in the analysis and testing of technical services, and product testing. They also work to help set up new computer technologies in store or retail settings.

5 *Developed the first computer compiler in 1952 *Popularized the term, “bug” *Promoted to the rank of Commodore in 1983 *Became a Rear Admiral two years later *Won the Man-of-the-Year Award in 1969 *Awarded the National Medal of Technology in 1991

10 Project Objectives: *Seeks to develop an understanding of the limits on the achievable data rates of short range radio systems. *it is possible to build systems of Infostations in which small, separated coverage areas facilitate transfer rates approaching a 1 Gb/s for a tiny amount of the cost. *When a mobile user passes an Infostation, for about a fraction of a second, the user will have access to a high-rate communication channel. *A key task is to identify that window and transmit at an appropriate rate.

11 Project Objectives: * To provide media rich applications at attractive prices for the “always connected” of lifestyle of mobile users *An application or service that is only available in certain areas will have limited appeal to the wider user community
