EPPP – Licensure Process
EPPP: Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology It is a 225 question exam Only 200/225 are scored – the remaining 25 are sample questions that are being tested for validity You must obtain a scaled score of 500 (or 70%) to pass This usually works out to be 140/200 questions answered correctly You have 4 hrs and 15 min to complete the exam
4
Licensure Process The EPPP can be taken once you have completed your doctoral degree in Psychology In the state of Illinois, you must also have completed your postdoctoral fellowship. In other states like Kansas, Indiana, and Michigan, the examination can be taken once you have began accruing hours on your fellowship.
5
Licensure Process Step 1: Develop a time-line of when you would like to take the examination If this is at the end of your fellowship, go the Illinois website for more information If this is while you are on your fellowship, follow either Kansas or Michigan guidelines (you should give yourself anywhere from 3-6 months to prepare if you are not studying fulltime)
6
Licensure Process Step 2: If you are interested in taking the examination during your fellowship year and go through Kansas: Download an application from: A complete application will have: Transcript sent directly to Kansas Application form Supervisor attestation forms (2 from internship, 2 from postdoc) or professional references Education form completed by the Dean of your program Application fee of $225
7
Licensure Process Step 3: While you assemble your application materials and are awaiting approval, buy your materials You can purchase these directly from the sources, from listserves (postdoc listserv), or from online marketplaces like eBay. Options: Aatbs: Academic Review: AReview.com/EPPP Psychprep:
8
Licensure Process Step 4: When you have received your approval from Kansas (and are ready to sit for the examination): Kansas will send you your Authorization to Test (ATT) letter, which will be in the form of an giving you approval to register with PES using their PsyIms online registration system. Kansas will also mail you this ATT, and with it give you instructions on how to get a Temp License. The cost to register with PES is currently $500. DO NOT register with PES until you are 100% sure that you are ready to take the exam within 60 days.
9
Licensure Process Step 5: Once you are registered with PES, they will send you an on how to register with Prometric, the actually testing center agency that you will be taking the examination at. Note that despite “sitting” for Kansas, you actually can physically take the examination at any testing center of your choosing (Chicago). You must select a date to take the exam within 60 of registering (they are open 7 days a week). The fee to register to take the examination is currently $65.
10
Licensure Process Step 6: Take the examination on the date that you have selected. For this, you will need: Your confirmation letter that Prometric s you 2 pieces of ID No cheat-sheets allowed – sorry! You are not allowed to bring any water or food into the testing center, but can bring approved ear plugs
11
Licensure Process One the day of the exam: Dress in layers
Prepare for ambient noise, people coming and going in and out of the room, cameras at all angles on you Plan your breaks strategically; you will need to get fingerprinted each time you leave AND return, which can take up time from the process and the clock keeps ticking despite you taking breaks
12
Licensure Process Step 7: Waiting for your results
Results are sent from PES to the Board 2x/month: on the 15th and 31st for Kansas. The Board will contact you to let you know if you have passed/failed via postal mail If you Leslie Allen from Kansas and ask what your status is, she has been kind enough to let us know once the scores are reported to her (usually by the 5th and the 20th of each month). Note that this can take as quickly as 10 days or as long as 8 weeks.
13
Licensure Process Step 8: Once you pass the examination
If this is done through Kansas you can get a Temp License (if you want, not obligatory) Transfer your score to Illinois – ONLY once your hours are complete This is done by completing an entire application for Illinois (much like the first one for Kansas): but under the heading of Acceptance of Examination The fee for this is $50 You will also need to have ASPPB transfer your score: The fee for this is $85 + $35 expedited fee if you want it to forward in less than 6 weeks.
14
Licensure Process If you are unsuccessful on your first attempt, you will need to re-register with PES and pay the $500 fee, as well as with Prometrics and pay their $65 fee. You can contact the Board that you applied to for more information as well, but you DO NOT need to reapply through them. You are able to take the examination up to 4 times in one calendar year.
