11 Transporting across membranes Solvent – Solute – Selectively permeable – water can move freely through the membrane, but the membrane regulates the passage of solutes Diffusion – movement of molecules from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration Osmosis – movement of water across a selectively permeable membrane.
