Thinking of Publishing as a System
13
Basic structure of IDEFØ ACTIVITY e.g. Publish a journal INPUTS OUTPUTS CONTROL MECHANISMS MECHANISM (usually people or suppliers, but also facilities (e.g. hosting)
14
Two Processes Peer review Production
15
Planning for launching and operating an OA journal Think in terms of activities – what needs to be done? Consider how it relates to other activities you need to perform – do other activities provide inputs or controls? Are the outputs from the activity in question inputs for other activities? What do you need to get the job done? How (who and/or with what system) will you get the job done? What controls will structure what you can/should do?
