7
Logging In Our version does not require a password, but You do have to use it in the library. You can’t use it from home, unfortunately. That would have required purchase of the desktop product for all of you – extremely expensive.
8
To begin, open Excel On the top line, there is a button for RIWeb There should be 4 buttons screen open screen report RIWebtools There is also a symbol lookup and a house.
9
Target companies and comparables Let’s start with IBM We could enter ticker, in the enter ticker box, or just hit the screen command. do the latter. This takes a minute – RIWeb is downloading a bunch of data. Now, see the research assistant, step 1.
10
Enter Information IBM in company pane Click S&P 500 member (to match on that attribute) hit summary to see what you’ve reduced your set to. Let’s reduce the set to 7 by matching on SIC code. Let’s look at IBM we just go to the next panel by hitting next. This allows us to open a report we can see what the SIC code is. can do the same for every company in the set
11
Saving screens You don’t have to retype later If the screen box disappears, just hit screen and it comes back. For saved screens, you type “open screen.”
12
There are a zillion canned reports We just got the company overview. We can also get financial statements core earnings (relative to EPS) we can produce comparison reports You can compute ratios You can do valuations
13
Modifying your list In step 2, the research assistant allows you to add or subtract firms from you list. Let’s add the NYSE Composite index. this could be useful in comparing vs. an index. Do a lookup If you doubleclick on something you find, it will appear on the assistant 2 pane. Click on “add issue’ and you’re done (save it). Hit “finish” and the size of your list will have changed.
14
RIWebtool Formatted Report Builder Step 1 is to select the format I chose table Step 2 is to select the items you want. notice that there is every financial ratio you can think of some valuation tools too (although they are not great – look like a client add-in and not linked to the core earnings concept). You can do what-if analyses on some of the valuation tools.
15
The house This is the single most valuable tool for getting started. It produces a number of canned reports for each stock (or index) in your list. Now, Explore!!
