Guided by the LBC Project Advisory Group and in collaboration with JISC: Mapping JISC projects to priorities Selecting potential projects fit for Leeds Communicating ‘intelligence’ to L&T communities Facilitating ‘take-up’ of project outputs/outcomes i.e. there is funding available! but also..... Identifying ‘gaps’ in JISC provision

LBC project priority: Effective Feedback AFAL (Aberystwyth)- comparison of 3 methods audio: digital recorder/MP3 posters, non-electronic work a/v asynchronous: headset/adobe acrobat/PDF reports/proposals a/v synchronous: headset/screencast/website link essays/presentations https://sites.google.com/site/audiofeedbackuk/home/ ASEL (Bradford & Hertfordshire) – audio choice in both assessment & feedback forms - encouraged dialogue with students http://aselproject.wordpress.com/ ASSET (Reading & Plymouth) – video generic, rapid feed-forward - increased student engagement http://www.reading.ac.uk/asset/ http://www.reading.ac.uk/asset/

Example of a JISC project output ASSET: use of audio/video e.g. FLIP camcorder – Demo – one prepared earlier! – ‘Play’ for 5 minutes: In 3s, make a short video Record your responses to the question: How might this technology be used to support feedback or feed-forward to students? Any barriers? – Play back – Feed back your responses to the group Broader discussion

9 Using the Flip Switch on: press power button on RHS Record: press record button to start /stop touch +/- to zoom in/out Play: touch button to start/pause NB: ‘Built in’ microphone - so need to be near the flip (Delete: touch delete button select ‘yes’ to confirm) Q: How might this technology be used to support feedback or feed-forward to students? Any barriers?

10 Feedback and Discussion Possible broader questions: How far are these kinds of technologies useful to enhance learning and teaching e.g. providing feedback to students? An enhancement or addition to existing practices? What other kinds of (existing) technologies might we deploy across the university ? e.g. Grademark/Turnitin - Rafe Hallett and Kevin Linch (History) What are the possible barriers? How might we best develop platforms to create an ongoing dialogue to build capacity in L&T?
