Books and Fines Before the end of term –Return all your books –Pay off all your fines/debts

Library Membership - MMU Unchanged – access and borrowing rights remain in place until the end of your course Network access rights - unchanged Electronic access rights – unchanged WebCT access rights - unchanged

Library Membership – Elsewhere in the UK Reference access to other HE institutions in the North West (NOWAL) –Show your MMU card to get in –EXCEPT: Register for Manchester University Borrowing and reference rights available at most universities –UK Libraries Plus –Register at the Library Enquiry Desk NB No access to other university computer networks other than library catalogues

Access to Libraries Overseas You will have to negotiate access yourself Unlikely to allow you to borrow anything or use networks

Access Passwords needed for all services –Athens = Network id and password –Others e.g. WGSN pin See the yellow databases handout Check with the Library if you aren’t sure Passwords to some resources may change mid-year – let us know if you have difficulties

Access All contact is via your student email or by post We cannot send out passwords to any other type of email account – legal restrictions

Accessing your H drive You can access the H: drive from outside Need your network id and password to get into it http://www.mmu.ac.uk/self/

Changes over the summer All student accounts and data MAY be deleted from July 31 st 2008 –Save your work before you go CD Writers on 4 PCs in Library Zip Drives on 4 PCs in Library USB Pen drives/ Floppy disk Email it to your email address Accounts (including email & WebCT) MAY be unavailable for a period of time – a day or two at most

Changes over the summer Network passwords MAY be reset: –Date of Birth eg Feb 1st 1984 –010284 Network accounts MAY be unavailable for a short time – email & WebCT affected as well

Legal Restrictions - Databases Academic Use: –Access to any electronic resource is for academic use only. When you registered on your course you signed an agreement that stipulates this

Legal Restrictions - Databases You must not: –Use databases for any purpose that will benefit your employer using an MMU- subscribed login –Search databases for other people using any MMU-subscribed login –Divulge any MMU-subscribed logins to other people

Legal Restrictions Data hosts can and do take legal action against anyone breaking these rules – especially if their business interests are harmed Remember - data hosts: –regularly monitor use –know who you are –know where you are

Finding information for your company report Large companies: easier to find published material Small companies: may need to use company archives for basic facts Remember to give the market context and explore the background issues

Company report brief: 1,500 words Demonstrate your understanding of the business: –Nature –Type –Size –Structure

Where will you start? Take 5 minutes to plan your company report: What information will you include? Which resources have you used in the past that may be useful? What information do you think will be hard to find? Why?
