2 Presentation Objectives
Provide an overview of Banner What is Banner? Why are we implementing the Banner system? What is the timeframe for implementation? Who is working on the project? How will it impact MCC? MCC Banner project--current status How can I prepare for Banner?

3 What is Banner? An upgrade to FRS, HRS, SIS and ADS
SCT Banner includes the following modules: Finance Human Resources Advancement (Alumni/Development) Student Financial Aid An integrated, database-driven information system (Oracle)

4 What is Banner? Banner is a web application
Available 24/7 via a web browser for access by students, faculty and staff Integrated application Point and click (GUI) interface Uses SQL (structured query language) Reporting software enhancement is WebFocus Provides more functionality for end users

5 What is Banner? All data reside in one database
Information shared among all applications Will use generated IDs with SSN as a searchable alternate ID Pushes functionality out of the IT area Individuals can customize their views of Banner

7 Why Implement Banner MCC’s current SCT PLUS products are 15+ years old
PLUS system is based upon mainframe systems (flat files) that do not support full integration of data that can be shared across modules Banner product is enhanced by the SUNY SICAS center

8 Banner Schools 900 colleges and universities nation-wide use Banner including: Alfred University, Dartmouth, Harvard, Ithaca College, Pace University, Rensselear Polytechnic Institute, St. John Fisher College, Villanova, Vassar Over 30 colleges and universities in the SUNY System

9 Banner Implementation
Involves all areas of the College Will provide increased access to data Will enhance the way the College collects, stores and retrieves data Will involve a technical and cultural shift

10 Implementation Timeframe 2003 - 2006
Start-up phase April 1 – August 31, 2003 Year 1 Finance (September, 2004) Year 2 Human Resources (January, 2005) Year 2 Advancement (September 2005) Year 3 Banner Student (October September 2006) Year 3 Banner Financial Aid (March 2006)

October 3, Admissions Go-Live for Fall January 3, College-wide Training Begins February 14, Registration for Summer March 23, Registration for Fall Financial Aid Go-Live

12 Training Modes In-person training-starting January 3
Web-based training videos on each area Training documentation available online Training CDs will be given to each Faculty member (including active adjuncts)

13 Banner Benefits College records will be housed in one large relational database information retrieved and reports generated will draw from current, non-duplicative system information Students have greater access to information Banner will bring closure to the problems associated with systems that "don’t talk to each other" Banner will allow access to information via a web browser in a highly secured and stable environment

14 Impact on MCC Moratorium on current system changes System revisions for compliance with regulatory issues only Business Process Analysis (BPA) End-user training Same timeframe as SUNY Mission Review and Middle States

15 Impact on MCC after Implementation
Access to data for students, faculty and staff will be improved Reports will be generated in a different way End users will have better access to reports Learning curve for end users will be steep and then will diminish PLUS system took over 15 years to be customized

16 Banner Preparation What can I do now to prepare for Banner?
Consider departmental processes and reporting needs Enhance technical skills in Excel and Access View the resources on the Banner web page Talk to colleagues at other Banner institutions
