1 For further information visit: www.nottingham.ac.uk/schoolm3 School of Mechanical, Materials and Manufacturing Engineering In the modern world a Mechanical Engineering course with an enhanced language content could give you the edge. Interested? In your third year you undertake an individual project and if you choose to study abroad then your project will be at the host institution. We currently have links with Grenoble, Lyon and Toulouse (France), Oviedo and Bari (Spain) and Clausthal and Ilmenau (Germany). Is this for you? We’re looking for highly motivated students fascinated by engineering with a strong interest in studying a modern language. Our typical entry grades are AAB to BBB. We also offer bursaries to high flying students. BEng / MEng Mechanical Engineering with a Language French, German or Spanish This course covers all the engineering science, design and computing you need to become a chartered mechanical engineer (MEng) and is fully accredited by the IMechE (MEng and BEng). In addition, you take language modules from the School of Modern Languages throughout the course, one module each semester – with a slightly reduced engineering content to compensate. You can start a language from complete beginner level or continue with a language you’ve already study to GCSE, AS or A2 level. In addition, students on the MEng course have the opportunity to study abroad in their 6 th semester. If you wish to continue into the 4 th year you hone and enhance your skills via the Group Development Project. At the end of 4 years you’ll be on the way to becoming a chartered engineer with excellent job prospects in engineering, business, management consultancy, finance... UCAS codes (BEng/MEng): French H3RC/H3R1 German H3RF/H3R2 Spanish H3RK/H3R4 Individual Project – smoke testing a concept car in a wind tunnel Formula Student car As with all our courses you have wide- ranging design teaching equipping you in the use of Pro-Engineer and bringing you to a level of competence in engineering machining. Each year you undertake comprehensive design projects that encourage you to develop as an engineer.

There is also a group design project, further engineering science content and the introduction of Management. This year you choose an optional module. Year three module titles Management Studies A Drive Technology and Control Management Studies BComputational and Numerical Techniques Individual ProjectGroup Design Project Thernodynamics 2 1 engineering option 2 language modules Year Four: In the fourth year you will undertake a group development project that comprises 33% of your time. This project addresses a real industrial problem from concept to working prototype with a business plan. Core modules equip you for a top engineering or business career while options allow you to follow your interests. 4 th year modules are slightly different if you studies abroad in semester 6. Year four module titles Group Development ProjectIntroducing EntrepreneurshipAdvanced Technology ReviewIntegrated Systems Analysis 2 language modules3 engineering options Year One: Most of the first year is common to all Mechanical Engineering courses. You study Design (including CAE, engineering drawing and a Design & Make Project), Engineering Science and Maths modules in addition developing communication, computing, team-working and machining skills. Year one module titles Solid Mechanics 1Professional Studies Engineering Mathematics 1Fluid Mechanics 1 Engineering Mathematics 2 Materials and Materials Forming Electrical and Electronic Systems2 language modules Integrated Design, Manufacture and Materials Year Two: This year builds on the first year, extending design and engineering science and new subjects are introduced. At the end of this year you select either BEng or MEng degree paths (a certain attainment level is pre-requisite for MEng) Year two module titles Fluid Mechanics 2Machine Dynamics Design, Manufacture and Materials AStructural Vibration 1 Design, Manufacture and MaterialsBSolid Mechanics 2 Design, Manufacture and Materials BSolid Mechanics 2 Thermodynamics 1 Solid Mechanics 3 Engineering Maths 32 language modules Eng Options include: Advanced Dynamics of Machines Heat Transfer Material Models and Modes of Failure Stress Analysis Techniques Structural Vibration 2 Aerospace Manufacturing Technology Introduction to Aerospace Technology Aerodynamics Internal Combustion Engines Introduction to Automotive Technology Introduction to Transport Materials Aircraft Propulsion Systems Automotive Vehicle Dynamics Human Structure and function for engineers Biomechanics Computational Fluid Dynamics Conservation & recycling of materials Elements of noise investigation Concurrent Engineering Flexible Automated Manufacture Energy Management Fibre reinforced composites engineering Automotive Materials Aerospace Materials Finite Element Analysis Rapid Product Development Lean Manufacturing Work Organisation and job design Mechatronics Polymer Engineering Food Processing and Manufacture Advanced Metal forming Cell structure and function for engineers And many many more!
