6 Week 8 Planning Curriculum & Instruction with Technology in Context Planning Implementation in YOUR Setting Technology : What do you need? (think equipment, SW. supplies, space...) What is available at your school or workplace? What advance arrangements or setup are necessary? How/where will work be saved, stored, transported, etc. Will you run into problems with blocking or filters? What could go wrong? What is your backup plan for worst case scenario? Instructor preparation: What training or practice do you need to be comfortable? What tech support do you require? Student preparation: How will you assess students’ technology skills and readiness? Will students need home access? Do any students need special assistive technologies? What permissions will you need from parents?

7 Week 8 Planning Curriculum & Instruction with Technology in Context Case Exercise: Reality Bites in Dynamic Earth  How did reality bite in Dynamic Earth?  Identify the contextual issues that affected Shamsa’s implementation  What unexpected situations did Shamsa encounter and how did she deal with them?  How were NETs for teachers and NETs for students addressed in Shamsa’s unit?  Look for direct and indirect evidence  Do you think Shamsa succeeded in cultivating 21st century literacies? How? Work in pairs...you have 20 minutes

8 Week 8 Planning Curriculum & Instruction with Technology in Context Preparing your Project Presentation 1. Clearly summarize the goals and the design of the unit and explain its rationale in relation to the most relevant readings from the course. 2. Focus on the way technology is used to improve teaching and learning about a particular “ target of difficulty ” and specific understanding goals. 3. Highlight dilemmas or insights from the design process. 4. Make a well-crafted succinct presentation in no more than 10 minutes and leave time to discuss the dilemmas or insights posed. 5. If you choose to use technology to support your presentation, take care to demonstrate its affordances as a teaching technology in the way you use it.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!  To prepare for Week 10 (November 30 class)  Refine all elements of your design--it should be close to finished-- Use the project rubric as a guide to what should be completed  Begin to prepare your project presentation  Think about paper topic ideas  Reading (one measly chapter!)  Weeks 11 and 12 classes --Project Presentations & Paper Consultations;......For homework you will REVIEW YOUR PARTNER’S DESIGN USING OUR RUBRIC....  Final paper outline due Week 12  Week 13 class--Tech rationale; Read to prepare for debate; Complete designs  Week 14 class--Keeping up your knowledge  Final papers due by January 11
