Energy comes to Earth from the sun. Earth has different climate zones because its surface is curved. Energy from the sun also powers Earth’s water cycle and creates weather patterns. Warms the atmosphere And the oceans. Keeps the water cycle going. Affects weather patterns. sun Creates climate zones. Energy from the sun

SKILL BUILDING 1. Find events that happen over and over. 2. Record the events on a chart. 3. Describe the way that events repeat. Patterns are groups of actions or events that are repeated. For example, weather happens in patterns. When you look for patterns, follow these 3 steps: What patterns can you see here: (all temperatures are in Fahrenheit) Mon.Tues.Wed.Thurs.Fri.Sat.Sun. HOT AIR AND COLD AIR

► Hot air always rises. Cold air sinks. ► Hot air in a hot air balloon rises up through the cooler air surrounding it. ► Air inside the balloon loses heat as the balloon rises. ► The hot air balloon stays up because the pilot adds heat with the use of a flame. ► To land a hot air balloon, the pilot lets out the air inside. Therefore, the balloon loses heat. ► As the air inside the balloon cools, the balloon sinks back towards Earth.
