Promotion is used to let the consumer know about the product, to persuade the customer to buy the product, or to remind the customer about the product Presents the product in such a way that the potential customer can recognise it as a need they wish to fulfil Promotion is about communication

Advertising Advertising is the way the marketer gets the message of the product over to the consumer Advertising is paid non personal communication about products and services - Television - Radio - News paper - Magazine - Billboards - On line

Personal Selling When a product is presented to a prospective customer by a person (representative) of the business Requires direct interpersonal communication techniques to get the message across - Sales assistants in retail stores - Door to door sales - Business to business – manufacturer representative

Publicity and public relations * Publicity differs from advertising in that it is free and timing is not controlled by the business By way of public announcement or press release from the company or because a journalist has an interest in some aspect of the business * Public relations usually involves supporting charities or community events – making the business look favorable to the consumer for their interest

Direct Marketing Direct marketing combines advertising, selling, and distribution and sometimes sales promotions and special offers and competitions Some forms are; - Mail order catalogue - Mailing lists - Leafleting - Telemarketing

Sales Promotions Can be mixed with other methods of promotion Aimed at the customer using - Free samples - Games - Coupons - Completions - Discounts or giveaways
