Re-using gloves Undamaged Autoclave Steps: 1. Wash to remove debris 2. Air dry 3. Dust with talcum powder 4. Turn inside out (powder now inside) 5. Place in inner glove wrapper 6. Gauze pad in cuff 7. Sterilize 15 lbs pressure, 250°F, 30 minutes

Gloving techniques Dry Normally Wet Remove from sterile wrapper Sterile basin with germicidal solution When filled, force in hands Excess solution is forced out If tears, throw out

Gown Precautions Don’t touch front surface or objects Keep sterile

Gowning Steps Remove gown from bundle Hold at neck and unroll With back of gown towards wearer, shake out and unfold Assistant holds collar at left tie string with right hand, wearer inserts left arm Assistant holds collar at right tie string with left hand, wearer inserts right arm Assistant ties and adjust gown Wearer extends arms upward until done Tying gown Assistant stands directly behind Places hands on shoulders and inside gown only

Gloving Steps Open outside glove wrapper prior to scrubbing Lift left glove with right hand, holding glove by turned down cuff Place left hand into the glove (don’t turn down cuff) Left gloved hand then reaches under the turned down right cuff of the right glove and steadies it as right hand is inserted By reaching under turned down cuff, pull glove up snuggly and unfold cuff over sleeves of the gown
