What will happen to the one million volumes housed in the main library The branch libraries can only accommodate one third this amount but then they won’t have any growth space. Extra copies will be sold for purchasing new materials Weed out duplicate copies of same titles among the consortia Digitize the materials (with copyright permission) Store the unique and specialized copies at designated libraries

What will happen to the one million volumes housed in the main library ……(continued) Increase borrowing right, extend loan period and no of renewals e.g. 60 books for 4 years per undergraduates (more for staff!) Improve recall services due to long loan period. Centralized all university library budget under consortia buying and lending

How will the information needs formerly fulfilled by these materials be met? Information needs will be fulfilled from: inter-library loan, consortium lending open access

How can Web resources help them? CADAL project, open-access institutional repository Google scholars wiki free e-resources Librarian’s role is to select the free materials available from the Internet

What sorts of needs can be met consortially? All universities will specialize their collections based on the subject areas. The collections will be available to all member libraries of the consortium

Will all former collections need to be continued? Each library will keep titles of specialized subject areas We could keep some rare or unique titles in the branch libraries
