Upstream PID Review Alan Bross MICE CM 16 October 12, 2006
2
Upstream PID Review Charge: u Have the simulation studies/analyses accurately and reliable defined the detector needs for the experiment? u Is the design specification sufficient to meet the needs of the experiment? u Is it likely that the proposed system(s) (detector, electronics, DAQ) can achieve this specification? u Are the risks fully understood and being appropriately managed? u Is the proposed schedule realistic in terms of the available resources: funding and people? u Is the schedule likely to lead to a timely installation in the MICE hall? u Are the infrastructure needs clearly defined and being addressed? u The review is also free to pick up on issues which may arise during the review and are not covered by the above.

Process At the close-out the committee will present preliminary findings u Findings u Comments u Recommendations My Goal is to have a final report to the project manager in about 2 weeks

Downstream PID Review Reminder Although the design of the downstream PID systems have progressed very nicely during CM16, there are still open questions: Magnetic shielding, detector size, calorimeter design. So it is still premature to schedule the DS-PID review at this time We propose that we have a 1-2 day workshop in Frascati to help finalize the design of the DS-PID systems in early December We (Vittorio and I) will try to pin down a date in the next 2 weeks. Afterwards we should be in a better position to determine when to schedule the actual review u But with a strong goal of having it no later than MICE CM17
