Dynamical and physical properties of a post-CME current sheet Ko, Y.-K., Raymond, J.C., Lin, J., Lawrence, G., Li, J, & Fludra, A. ApJ 2003 Notes on p.s. there is other UVCS literature on current sheets not reviewed here (Ciaravella et al., 2002)

Candidate current-sheet event on Jan. 8, 2002. The first sign in EIT of the event was 17:36 UT.

Properties CS structure appeared at PA 101 and gradually swung north Patchy outflows detected along CS Temperature 4-6 MK (Fe XVIII), emission measure 10 25 cm -5 (1.5 R  ), width ~0.4 R 

Critique Faint S arcade has bright “CS,” bright N arcade has no such feature “CS” flow direction is wrong; as reconnection point rises the flow should reverse “CS” structure could easily be interpreted as loops seen edge-on in a repetitive jet Possible confusion of UVCS FeXVIII signature with N loops

Opinions The observations may indeed show a current sheet, but without a good theory it is hard to be sure (How hot? How dense?) If feature “CS” is indeed a current sheet, it is more likely to be a “wake-jet” phenomenon as described by Einaudi et al. There is no compelling reason to associate “CS” with flare energy release according to the usual cartoon
