3 The Work of Action Teams Purposes : – Translate clusters of themes into action plans – Set a time-horizon 5 years out – Envision significant impact beyond the university – Consider the themes, imperatives distributed at the last meeting Method – Work in small groups – Convener/Co-convener roles – Create deliverables for each Town Hall Meeting – Involve people beyond those attending Town Halls

6 Definition and Scope Define the idea(s). If necessary, create a sub-set of ideas that your group will consider. Define the scope of the ideas. – Consider how far the effects of the idea(s) will be felt. – For example: city-wide, state-wide, all large universities, national, global?

7 Describe the Vision Vision: “A description of a desired future state” Pick a time horizon at least 5 years out. A vision isn’t a statement, it’s an engaging description of a future that no one can see clearly, or predict with accuracy. Start the description with: “We can see….” Don’t worry about practicality, reality or “yeah but” at this point.

8 Describe the Vision (cont’d.) Vision: “A description of a desirable future state” What will be different or better in five years as a result of the work on your idea(s)? “We can see….”

12 Next Steps Please submit a copy of your completed Definition, Scope and Vision by March 24 Next Town Hall Meeting is March 29 Please note the time changes: – Co-conveners meet from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. – Affinity groups meet from 9:00 to noon. – Brief review of the current situation as it relates to your idea(s). – Barriers and enablers related to reaching the vision.
