3.  It expresses and explores the personal feelings of the writer.  The piece may attempt to answer a question, state an opinion or recount the writer's personal experiences.  The main expectation of expressive writing is to express feelings and observations personally.  First Person Point of View  The writing must be directly about the writer.  Reflective of life-shaping experiences.  The topic can be anything as long as the writing expresses personal thoughts and feelings. Example: "I remember the day my grandma taught me to make apple pie. I was so excited, but then I cried when I couldn't roll out the crust.“

AUTOBIOGRAPHY- MYSELF BIOGRAPHY- SOMEONE ELSE  Someone wanting to tell the story of their lives in an interesting or dramatic way.  They want to create a self- portrait that readers can relate to and perhaps admire. Answer These Questions As You Read: 1. What kind of life did this person have? 2. How do I feel about him or her?  Someone telling an interesting story about the events of a person’s life.  Biographers want to create a portrait, or impression, of that person so that you can understand what he or she was really like.
