Experiment 3 part 3 – Feedback and recap of parts 1 and 2 – Lab 3: Terminal Velocity Goals for this lab: o Obtain and analyze large amounts of data o Determine the dependence of terminal velocity on mass: is it better represented by a linear dependence or a quadratic dependence of the mass on the velocity squared?

– Part I: Each table takes at least 20 measurements of the terminal velocity for either 1, 2, 3 or 4 coffee filters. – Find the mean value and its error using a histogram – Part II: Tables exchange members so all tables have mean values and errors for all number of coffee filters Experiment 3 part 3 TA station 1 coffee filter 3 coffee filters 2 coffee filters 4 coffee filters 2 coffee filters 3 coffee filters 4 coffee filters 1 coffee filters TA station 1,2,3,4 coffee filter 1,2,3,4 coffee filters 1,2,3,4 cofee filters 1,2,3,4 coffee filters Part I: collecting and analyzing individual data Part II: analyzing all data A B C DEF A B C DEF A A A AAA B B B BBB

Experiment 3 part 3 – Part II: – Graph the terminal velocities (and their errors) for all number of coffee filters. – Add a line that fits a linear relationship between the terminal velocity and the number of coffee filters. – Add a line that fits a quadratic relationship between the number of coffee filters and the velocity squared. – Which one is a better fit?
