Advocacy Project Review Advocacy Project: Any creative, research-based advocacy action that you actually carry out in your school, community, city, or nation. You may use any form of media: written, visual, video or audio recorded, etc. Your advocacy project must do the following: - educate the public about health care reform - attract attention to health care reform issues - persuade others that health care reform is necessary

Advocacy Project Requirements Review You must show proof that you created & carried out your advocacy project, even if it’s just a “pilot” test… – Examples: Create the Website, Facebook page, poster, billboard, etc. Video/radio spot/documentary: Actually record it or produce a storyboard/script Community meeting: Write out the agenda & gather a small focus group to “pilot” it; gather their feedback

Advocacy Project Grading Review: CREATIVITY (15 pts) QUALITY/EFFORT (15 pts) IMPACT / EFFECTIVENESS (15 pts) CONTENT (15 pts) – Obama’s Provisions What does the law do for your population? Why will it be effective? How can we gather public support for it? – Your new provision What is Obama’s law missing? What else needs to become part of the policy to help your population?

Obama Advocacy Letter Requirements Review Team-written letter to President Obama or First Lady Michelle Obama (about 2 single spaced, typed pages) This letter must clearly: discuss reasons you support or oppose at least 2 of the provisions in the new health care reform law provide 1 or more recommendations for future action (including a Provision that should be added) describe your advocacy project in a compelling and clear way
