Our data suggests that, similar to “standard” pt, MO pts benefit from 1.reduced amount of post operative pain medication, 2.low blood loss, 3.decreased risk of post-operative pulmonary atelectasis 4.short hospital stay with the laparoscopic approach.

Conclusions : Laparoscopic transperitoneal renal surgery is technically more difficult but is a feasible, effective, minimally invasive method of removing renal malignancies in morbidly obese patients. It offers a decreased respiratory and cardiac morbidity in this higher risk population. This study showed a comparable complication profile to standard patients.
