I decided that my target audience would be late teenagers to early adults (15 onwards to middle 20’s). So that my survey got the information that i needed from my survey i made sure i asked just this target audience. My target audience who i asked ranged from 16 year olds to 20 year olds. The first question I asked in my survey was what people first impression of the front cover was. Some of my target market said that the main image stands out the most on the page and also the title for ‘the red’ also

I decided that my target audience would be late teenagers to early adults (15 onwards to middle 20’s). So that my survey got the information that i needed from my survey i made sure i asked just this target audience. My target audience who i asked ranged from 16 year olds to 20 year olds. Question one says what are your first impressions of the contents page to the magazine? My target audience was that the page is very eye catching. The colours on the page (red and the black) work together really well as they contrast each other. People also said that the images also stand out because of the borders. In question two I asked my target audience if they though the colour scheme was right for my genre of magazine. The people I asked replied that they believed that the black and the red is a typical colour theme within the rock genre. They also said that the strong dark colours are good. The next question asked my target audience “Do you think that the the type of text suits the genre of the magazine?” and most of my target audience said that they do think that that the text suits and they said that they think that some parts suits more because its bolder and more harsh. Question four is where I asked about what my target audiences opinion of the pictures on the page were. They in return said that they thought that the style used on the images made them eye catching and it fits the style of the rock music perfectly. People said that there was a good range and variety of images on the page, however people also said that the bottom images were not very clear, so they could be edited more to be made more clear. Others said that it seemed just the right amount of images and they were spaced out well. The fifth question I asked, was “Do you think there is enough information on the page?”. My target audience replied that they thought that it could have included a bit more information on each feature. They also said that that because the page was quite simple it worked much better than there being too much on the page, people said that if there was anymore on the page and it would be too much. Question number 6 asked my target audience about what they thought of the layout to the page. My target market said that they thought it was a cleaver idea having all the pictures on one side and all the text on the other, this in turn looked very effective. People also said that because that page wasn’t too crowded it worked better and the information was easier to read, everything stands out with the way its been laid out was another comment I received when asked the question. People also said that that the page looked well thought out and by having all the information under different headings are very useful. “How could this page be improved?” was the last question I asked my target market. The replied with comments such as, “Maybe some different colours on the page.”, “Maybe edit the pictures more to make them more clearer.” and also include more information on the reviews and gigs section of the page.

I decided that my target audience would be late teenagers to early adults (15 onwards to middle 20’s). So that my survey got the information that i needed from my survey i made sure i asked just this target audience. My target audience who i asked ranged from 16 year olds to 20 year olds. The first question I asked my target audience to wards the opinion of my double page spread was ‘What are your first impressions of the Double page to the magazine?’ The point of asking this question was to find out what really caught my audiences attention on this page. Many of my target audience said that my double page stands out and is well structured with a lot of detail and good images. People also said that the editing that was done to the images very good and interesting. Another of my target audience said that the main image drew there attention straight away. The second question I asked was about the colour scheme of the page and whether it was right for the type of genre of the magazine. Most people just answered that they did think that the colour scheme suited the genre of the magazine. Other people said that because it’s the colour scheme of the whole magazine and it runs all the way through it works. ‘Do you think that the type of text used suites the genre of the magazine?’ the reason I asked this question was to find out what people thought because if they didn’t think that the text used suited the genre of the rest of the magazine then I could make changes to my magazine however most people said ‘yes’ they did think that the text suited the magazine. To contrast with what some others said one person asked said that ‘to an extent, it could have been a bit more rock style, however it does fit in with the bands style.’ Question number 4 was ‘ what is your opinion on the double page of the magazine?’, my target audience replied why things like, ‘very good, the pictures stand out and match the theme of the magazine’, most people also agreed that the editing was good and the style that I use for both pictures and text was effective in fitting in with the style of the magazine. Others said that it works as the people who are in the images aren't looking at the camera. ‘Do you think there is enough information on this page?’ was the next question I asked in my survey. My target audience exclaimed that they thought there was enough information and what information there was explained everything they needed to know. One of my other target market audience said that yes it was just the right amount of writing as if there was too much it may put the reader off. In question 6 I ask my target audience what they thought of the layout to the page. They said that they thought everything was easy to read, nice to look at and effective. They also said that it look’s like a real magazine. My last question on the survey was about how I could improve my magazine. Some of my target audience said that the writing on the left hand side should be spread out because some of it looks merged.

My final and finished magazine did not come out exactly like how my flat plan looked. This is mainly due to designing it firstly like my flat plat but then realising that it looked better sometimes in different ways. I found that sometimes the design looked one way flat but when you start adding pictures etc you can’t always stick to what you planned to do and this is because the page looks better in certain ways compared to others. Not having to stick to the plan that I made gave me a perfect opportunity to be able to redesign the page however I wanted to whilst sticking to the basic out lines. When concerning my double page spread the main image is the main thing I changed, comparing it back to my flat plan I did like how I designed it in my flat plan however during the practice exploration of trying to manipulate my images I found it extremely difficult to recreate my designing and bring it to life. I also thought that it would show more creativity in letting the designs just flow and seeing then what I came up with. I, myself, found this way useful in being more creative and designing better pages.

How does your media product represent particular social groups? My magazine represents the social group that I aimed my magazine at by making sure that firstly the front cover to my magazine looks professional and eye catching. I would like people to want to buy my magazine just by looking at the front cover in a shop. Over all my front page, my contents page and my double page spread I think and tried to represent my target audience and the social group I was aiming the magazine at. Because my magazine is targeted at teenagers and young adults then in my opinion the magazine had to be bright and eye catching so that people would want to buy and read the magazine. How did you attract/address your audience? By making all the pages off my magazine bold and eye catching It would attract more people to want to buy and read the magazine, I found that by making the pages really stand out it was a good way to really attract my audiences attention and keep them involved while reading. The language and layout to the pages were quite informal as I found that because I was addressing a younger audience an informal setting would be the best way to keep my target audience interested in what they were seeing or reading. The type of institutions that may distribute my media product would be shops, like corner shops or food shopping places like Tesco's and Asda. This would be because they are the main places that I have ever really seen magazine’s been sold. My media product would also be sold over the internet like Q and other magazines do, you can subscribe to the magazine over the internet, which is what my magazine would be available to do. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

On the front cover, the layout of my product does not challenge the forms and convections of real media products. For example where things are placed in the layout like the main title (at the top in the left corner) I did not feel the need to change because it is a concept that has always worked and so I carried this idea over to my own product. Many magazines have the title of the magazine at the top of the page because it draws attention their and also because it’s such a common convention many people look for the title at the top of the page as this is where the title usually sits. I also kept the same concept for my main image on the page, I had the main image as the back ground for the page as many other magazines do. This shows an audience what the magazine is mainly about the image of the band. Having an Image as a main background helps the magazine become more eye catching and creates more attention on the front cover. Also main magazines use the main image back ground as a selling point for the magazine. Also through my magazine I kept the theme of not having too many images, which is a common concept through many of the modern magazines that we have today. I kept this the same so it didn't challenge the forms and convections of really media projects as I felt that there was no need to change this, as its a convection that works well, as if a page that looks less cramped and not so busy it is more of a effective eye pleaser. The title of the main band featured in the magazine has been kept the same. The convections of a real media product has. As you can see from the images on the left hand side that the names of the main band featured are usually big, bold and eye catching and go across the page, letting an audience know that they are the main feature of the magazine. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
15
The images that I have used on my contents page does not challenge the forms and convections of a real media product, from real media products I have taken that there is usually one main image on a contents page and a few smaller ones. I felt no need to challenge this convection as through out research I found that this method worked well and so I carried the method over to my own work. Through evaluation I found that my target audience thought this style and layout worked really well so over all I was in the end glad that I didn’t challenge and change the convections and forms of really media products as it might not have worked as well. I also found through research that many magazine contents pages include a note from the editor, I found that this concept worked well and thought I would include it in my own work instead of challenging the forms and convections of an idea and set- up that works perfectly well. Another way in which my media product does not challenge the forms and conventions of real media products and instead use’s them to its advantage is where the title of the contents page sits. In most of my research I found that the contents page main heading is usually situated at the top of the page on the left hand side, followed closely by the date and the issue number of the magazine. In my own magazine I continue to use this form from real magazines as I found that this was not something to be challenged as it works well. An asymmetric layout was yet another media form and convection that i did not challenge. I use an asymmetric layout in my own work, not only because nearly all other real media products use this layout, but personally I think it looks neater and more professional. I think more people would want to read the magazine if the layout looked nice, neat and in a certain order, I think that people would not read the magazine if the layout was a mess and didn’t look very nice. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
16
The image on my double page spread does not challenge the forms and convections of a real media products as I found that through research that a main image being used that took up a whole page would go on the left hand side of the double page spread so I carried this form over to my own work to not challenge the forms and convections of real media products. Also in the way of not challenging the forms and convections of real media products the inclusion of a quote in my work is on many real media products. By adding quotes from what the band have said on the page, I think it breaks the page up and makes everything look more interesting, therefore making you want to read more. I have used 2 main colours on my double page spread. I have used the conventions and forms of real media products by having a two toned page of colour. I think that this makes the pages look interesting and different. It makes the pages look eye catching and makes all the information in the pages stand out more and seem to be more interesting.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? The three main technologies that I used in the construction of my product was: the use of camera, the editing with Photoshop and the presentation with Power point. The hardest of the three technologies that I used in my opinion was Photoshop. I think I found this the hardest because I had never before used Photoshop but I had previously used the others. During the construction of my final product I believe that I learnt the most in the program Photoshop. I think I learnt the most in this as i had never before used the program so it took a lot of time getting use to the set up of the program and how it works, so that I could effectively use it in creating my final product. By the end of the project I found it easy to edit photos so that they fit the genre of my magazine. During the editing of my photos I found the work very enjoyable and thoroughly liked editing my images. The use of camera work during my project was quite minimal. As I only used the camera to take the pictures I was to edit for the use in the final part in the making of my magazine, I never really found I had to much trouble in the use of the camera work. I also used power point in my project. Having used the program many times before I found it easy to work with and had no trouble setting up my project on it.

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product? Looking back at the preliminary task, I think that I have improved massively. I believe that the changes I have made from the preliminary task compared with the final full product the comparisons are great. Not only have I learnt to use a new program (Photoshop) but I have also learnt the basic knowledge in how a magazine comes together and the basic concepts concerning how a magazine gets put together. After researching and studying intensely at many different magazines trying to get the concept of how a magazine is laid out in my head and the reasons why it is laid out that way it is, I started applying what I learnt through my research into the designs and making of my own product. I believe that the main thing I have learnt is how to create a product biased soul around the needs of you target market. I think it was good that by creating surveys and questionnaires you were able to find out exactly what your target audience wanted from a magazine and then apply that information to your own product. Another huge thing I have learnt through out this project was how Photoshop works. Having never used Photoshop before creating this product and having always used a program call ‘Fire Works’, I had to learn how to use a new program. At first the program was difficult to use, however the more I used it to create my product the more I got use to the program and the easier I found it to work with. After working with Photoshop for all of my project I can now say that I can use it well and effectively. Over all I think I have improved greatly from my preliminary task to my main one. There are many things in which I have improved and I now feel more confident in using the different programs.
